George R. Lewis incoming correspondence, 1839-1844.

Letters, primarily from his brother Charles, about the uncertain economy following the 1837 recession and his concerns about the amount of paper (credit) they hold. Charles mentions the need to stop the mills, and the markets for cotton and whale oil. Also includes a letter from Guy Richards describing travel on canal boats and the city of Cincinnati, and a letter to Mary Lewis, George's wife, from Sophia Huntington in 1844 describing Naples, Italy.
